BSNL Broadband internet is really good one. I have purchased BSNL WiFi routers for broadband connection. WiFi will allow me use internet on my laptop so really one more good feature by BSNL.

But major security threat is these routers are configured for open access and setup with default settings. So this is a major security issue, By compromising these setting any one can connect to you router consol and change your settings.

In Mumbai incidents happened when terrorists used open WiFi access point for sending treating emails. So securing your WiFi connections is very essential.

Using following steps you can configure your WiFi router and secure it from un-authorized access.

1. Connect your PC/Laptop with LAN cable connection.
Don’t use WiFi connection for first time configuration of router. While applying MAC filter setting WiFi connection to Router admin can disconnect.

2. Change IP address as shown in following fig.

7.I used simple method of MAC filtering for allowing access only to my Laptop.

8.Go to command prompt and give command ipconfig/all and find out MAC address(physical address) of network card.

10.Select “Allow” radio button and click on add button.

11.Enter PC MAC address(physical address) in this format -00:22:68:CA:5A:5D and save settings.

This will restrict you WiFi router access only with your PC/Laptop network card.No other pc can connect to your WiFi router now.

12.If you are not going to use WiFi good thing is to hide wireless Access Point from Wireless router setting.

      Hi Navneet,
As MTNL provide Wifi routers that means they support WiFi connection.Router provided by MTNL will have predefined settings, but as you have your own router you need to setup WLAN configuration of your Wifi router.Try to take access of router by steps provided by me.
